DAILY NEWS photo29/03/2014 (Hurriyet – Turkey): More than 50 million Turkish people go to the polls to vote in the local elections on March 30, amid security concerns raised from both the government and the opposition.  The Higher Election Board (YSK) has announced that a total of 52,695,831 people are eligible for voting, at a total of 177,044 polling stations.  Voting will start at 7 a.m. in the eastern provinces of Turkey and will end at 4 p.m. In western Turkey, voting will be between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. People will vote for the mayors and administrators of district and provincial municipalities, as well as provincial city council members. More than 48 million people will vote in urban polling stations, while 3 million are registered to vote in their villages. ..

29/03/2014 (Gulf Daily News – Bahrain): MANAMA: The US has harshly criticised Ambassador Thomas Krajeski for damaging relations with Bahrain. In a hard-hitting report, the State Department says Ambassador Krajeski’s “seat of the pants” leadership style has damaged Washington’s reputation in the kingdom. Mr Krajeski has done little to plan for the future of the diplomatic mission, is providing poor leadership to staff members and has earned the ire of the local population, possibly to the detriment of US diplomatic interests, the Office of Inspector General for the State Department and Broadcasting Board of Governors says in a new report. Mr Krajeski’s leadership style has left his employees to fend for themselves, says the report, an unusually harsh criticism of a sitting diplomatic official. “His belief that reactive ‘seat of the pants’ leadership works best in Bahrain’s challenging environment has left staff members who do not have access to him on a regular basis confused about mission goals,” says the report…



Listed industrial investment firms’ sales hit SR18.6 billion

1396112375603428800.jpg30/03/2014 (Arab News – KSA): Sales of the listed industrial investment firms grew by 5.4 percent to SR18.57 billion in 2013 compared to SR17.62 billion in 2012, local media said. Similarly, net profits of the industrial firms increased by 16.3 percent to reach SR3.11 billion by the end of 2013 compared to SR2.68 billion in 2012, according to data filed by Al-Hayat daily. The number of listed industrial investment firms stands at 14 with their market capitalization at SR62.7 billion, or 3.3 percent of the Saudi market value. Capitals of the sector reached SR17.7 billion. Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Maaden) topped the list of the biggest profit-making firms after having increased its profits by 54.21 percent to SR1.68 billion in 2013 compared to SR1.09 billion in the previous year. Its sales rose by 8.4 percent to SR6.05 billion compared to SR5.57 billion in 2012, the report said..



13 more schools set to open in New Dubai in the next two years

26/03/2014 (GulfNews – UAE): Dubai: Thirteen new schools are set to open across New Dubai areas in the next two years, adding nearly 27,000 seats for students of various curriculums. According to the Knowledge and Human Development Auth-ority (KHDA), seven schools will open this year in Al Quoz, Nad Al Sheba, Mirdif, Al Barsha, Dubai Land and Motor City. Five will be British curriculum schools with over 13,000 seats in Dubailand, Nad Al Sheba, Al Barsha and Motor City. One Indian school with 3,000 seats will open in Al Quoz. One Canadian school with a capacity of 900 students will open in Mirdif. Next year, six schools with a total of 10,000 seats will open in Emirates Hills, Meydan, Dubai Investment Park (DIP), Dubailand, Al Barsha and Nad Al Sheba…

Armenia Keen to Import More Natural Gas from Iran26/03/2014 (Fars News Agency – Iran): TEHRAN (FNA)- The Armenian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Armen Movsisyan underlined Yerevan’s determination to boost energy ties and natural gas imports from Iran. Movsisyan said that increasing Armenia’s natural gas import from Iran up to two billion cubic meters is scheduled to be discussed during a joint commission between the two countries’ officials in charge in Tehran due in May 2014. In recent years, Iran and its Northern neighbor Armenia have boosted cooperation, signed agreements on energy cooperation and agreed to cooperate in technology and research and enhance ties in commerce and economy. In August, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani and his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsian, in a meeting in Tehran, hailed the friendly relations between the two neighboring states, and called for the expansion of mutual cooperation in all arenas. During the meeting, the Iranian president said that relations between Iran and Armenia have been friendly based on mutual interests and there is no doubt that the same trend will be continued in future to help enhance the current level of relations and cooperation…

UAE’s first shopping mall dedicated to gadgets launched

26/03/2014 (Emirates 24/7 – UAE): Nice Home Real Estate on Tuesday announced the launch of UAE’s first shopping mall, fully dedicated to technology products. Being built at a cost of Dh180 million, the three-storey iMall will house 100 shops, and showrooms will open doors in May 2015, Mounir Lutfy, Director of Nice Home Real Estate, told Emirates 24l7. Claimed to be the first mall solely focused on tech products and services in the UAE, Nice Home will start leasing from today (March 26, 2014). Located on the Dubai-Sharjah Road and spread over 60,000 square feet, iMall will serve as a one-stop destination for IT and communication-related products in both retail and wholesale segments. “This is the first shopping mall of its kind in the UAE. We received a lot of inquiries but didn’t sign a contract with any company; we apologised and insisted that we have to open bookings at the same time for everybody. Syrian radar ‘locked on to Turkish jets’

26/03/2014 (Anadolu Agency – Turkey): Three Turkish fighter jets were harassed by Syrian missile systems on Wednesday, the Turkish General Staff announced in a statement.“Three F-16 fighter jets performing Combat Air Patrol on the Turkey-Syria border were harassed by Syrian air missile batteries, which locked on to our jets 11 times in five minutes and ten seconds,” the statement, published on the General Staff’s website said. The Turkish Air Forces scrambled its fighters to intercept three Syrian military jets approaching the border adding that the jets turned back 3.3 to 4.1 kilometers from the border. Turkey on Sunday shot down a Syrian military jet, saying that it had violated Turkish airspace. The two countries share more than 800 km of border. ..
